Here in San Francisco, summers come very late. It’s almost the end of May, and we’re just now getting consistently warm days. Pulling out my winter coat for the millionth time, I’m tempted to get upset about it, but instead, I’m going to get shopping.
Recently, I’ve decided to get back into tennis. Getting to hang with friends while getting exercise and sunshine? It doesn’t get much better… until you consider the outfits! Tennis has some of the most iconic looks, which can be rare in athletic endeavors.
Here’s a list of what I’m lusting after for this year’s spring/summer tennis season. Dressing this time of year in SF can be a bit tricky with chilly mornings and sunny afternoons, but these styles will keep you comfy and chic.
Classic Pleated Skirts
The classic pleated skirt is a staple in tennis fashion — they literally call it a tennis skirt. This season, look for skirts that feature a modern twist on the traditional design. High-waisted options with built-in shorts provide comfort and coverage. I’m loving this tennis skirt from Amazon; it has multiple pockets!
Racerback Tank Tops
Layers are key in SF, making a cute tank top perfect for a warm afternoon on the court. Did you know that a racerback design will make it easier to get a full range of motion? A good tank top will help you look and feel great with each swing. I’m also obsessed with matching sets. Your top of course can match or compliment the color your tennis skirt. This top from Lululemon is a more of a hybrid than a true racerback but the little collar makes it too cute not to wear for tennis.
Varsity Sweatshirts
San Francisco’s weather can be unpredictable, so an outer layer is a must. A varsity-style sweatshirt can be a cute alternative to an athletic jacket. . In outerwear, it can be smart to choose a versatile color, like white, navy, or black that can complement any outfit, but I often like to go bold. This sweatshirt from Amazon has a classic look and is affordable enough to get in multiple colors.
Picking out some fun tennis fashions has me so excited to get on the court and soak up some sun. I’m partial to Dolores Park and the beautiful new Tennis Center in Golden Gate Park, but which courts in San Francisco are your favorite to hit up?
